The SEO Audit – Website Structure

One of the first things you should look at when creating your SEO audit checklist is the structure of your medical website. This is not done so much for aesthetics but to make sure that the SEO website design allows the spiders to effectively crawl the pages and rank your content appropriately.
The structure of your website is important because if the site is not built to be spider friendly, then the rest of your web page optimization efforts will be minimized because the spider will not find all of the content you have worked so hard to create.

What to Include in the SEO Audit
When auditing your website for effective search engine optimization, ask the following questions at a minimum:

  1. Does each page in your website have its own unique title?
  2. Did you include an appropriate, keyword rich meta description for each individual page?
  3. Are all of your keywords written in text rather than displayed in a graphic format?
  4. Are all of your internal links coded in HTML?
  5. Do all of your links point to the home page as http://www.yoursite.com/ rather than generic links like index.htm of default.aspx?
  6. Are you using 301 redirects rather than 302 redirects?
  7. Are random session IDs turned off for your website’s non-registered visitors?
  8. Do you have no more than three parameters in your URL queries?
  9. Are you using valid markup on your website?

This may seem like quite a bit to look over but making sure that these are included in your SEO audit checklist will help you make sure that the spiders are crawling your site in the best possible way for you.
